Swansea selects Cityspace for BRT passenger information

Cityspace to deliver content management and network of smart screens and smart panels for acclaimed Swansea Metro

London, 17th June 2009 — Cityspace, a leading provider of transport information and services to passengers, has been selected by the City and Council of Swansea to provide a network of Smart Screens and Smart Panels with content management delivered by Cityspace Vision for the much hailed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme due to open this summer.

The Swansea Metro is a pioneering BRT scheme aimed at delivering the public transport mode of choice between the bustling city centre, Swansea railway station and broader city limits to tackle growing congestion head-on by delivering a desirable alternative to the car for local journeys.

"Cityspace presented us with an attractive combination of flexible content management and the most effective delivery channels for scheduled and real-time information across the BRT network," said Simon Rees-Jones, Assistant Engineer for Capital Schemes, City and County of Swansea.

"Passenger information is the 'glue', if you like, which will make the BRT service so compelling to passengers. For example, by delivering real-time rail information to shoppers at the city bus hubs, passengers can plan their home journeys with confidence.

"The content management and delivery system, Cityspace Vision, enables us to harness our existing data feeds to create live travel updates and synchronise departure information with public announcements where and when they are needed across the network. This control, flexibility and value-add to existing data investment makes Cityspace Vision the definitive solution to our content and delivery needs."

A new fleet of modern Streetcars wholly funded by First Cymru, will run on the dedicated busways where, in phase one of the project, eight Smart Screens and two Smart Panels will deliver a mix of broadcast and interactive touch-screen services to passengers.

Looking beyond this summer's opening, the Council is now considering the deployment of a further 23 large screens carrying Cityspace Vision content along the new route as part of an upcoming 10.4m bus station redevelopment.

End.
