working at Kizoom

a life in the day

You won't find any developers in suits at Kizoom. You also won't find interminable meetings or ponderous processes. What you will find is a group of friendly, smart people who take pride in doing their jobs well.

We work on challenging real-world problems knowing that we're building services that make public transport journeys easier for people all over the UK.

You'll see people at Kizoom getting excited about some pretty odd things, like managing bus stop data, or making it easier for a data manager from a small train operator to let the public know that the wheelchair-accessible toilet on Platform 3 at Goole railway station is equipped with a low-level lock.

We also get excited about technology. Our primary technologies are Java, XML and mainstream Internet technologies. We use Agile development techniques to carry out rigorous software engineering in a flexible, developer-centric way.

At Kizoom we also use a wide range of open source technologies to build and run our services and products. Kizoom developers are encouraged to contribute improvements or fixes back to the open source community

why we like working at Kizoom

Open quotes image Our developers already have strong Java skills when they first join us, but the working environment, the democratic structure and the standard of thinking, the calibre of project we work on - and the new technologies we work with - mean that our skills are continually improving. The good atmosphere here derives from interested people doing interesting work on useful projects. Close quotes image

We take standards incredibly seriously. We are experts in web standards like HTML and WAP and obsess about designing user interfaces that are as simple as possible to use. Kizoom's summer picnic

We are also driving the technical direction of key XML standards in the public transport sector, such as NaPTAN which describes bus stops (fun!), and JourneyWeb for journey planning. We achieve all this in an XP environment, where code quality is paramount, and developers have a very close relationship with clients and project management so everyone knows what's going on.

It's very stimulating working with such an intelligent group of people as there are always new ideas being batted around. Close quotes image
